The information revolution has created the need for a new kind of professional: someone who is skilled in locating, organizing, manipulating, filtering and presenting digital information. The School of Information Management and Systems (SIMS) at UC Berkeley was created to educate such information managers. The curriculum is designed to cover both the technical and the human side of information management so as to produce students who can function well in a variety of roles and organizations. Hal Varian, Professor and Dean of the School of Information Management Studies, University of California at Berkeley will describe the structure of the program.
